The Enchanted Forest

Today was the first real rainy day in the park and I would have to say it was one of the most beautiful days so far. The thick fog gives the forest a mystical, enchanted feel and every color seems ten times more vibrant. This got me thinking about how I love working outside; being forced to be out here even when the weather is less than perfect. I often found that the most memorable scenic days on the AT were the days that most would consider 'bad' weather. These thoughts inspired me to compile a few more of the little things that I appreciate about living and working in SNP...

1. Uniforms- Genius!! I never spend time wondering what to wear, right down to the socks! (The uniform seems to be a hit with my girls, too- thanks Lacy and Em!)

2. No AC- Well, ask me again in August when its 110 degrees, but for now having the windows open means waking up to the natural alarm clock of the towhees telling me to "drink your tea" You can hear what they sound like here.

3. Walking to work- How different things would be if more Americans were able to (and chose to) do this!

4. No TV- We are forced to actually talk to each other to pass the time.

This is only a partial list of the things that amuse me, but one thing that always makes me happy is visitors... so if you can handle the lack of AC and the previously mentioned pets; I have an extra bed (or sleeping bag) for you!

It's a good rainy day here as well, complete with thunder and lightning! I agree with scenic fog and drippy plants! Sounds like loads of nature enjoyment.
I've checked out the bird sound you mentioned, and I strongly encourage you to heed his song, and "drink your teeeee"
Love ya!

clearly i need to move to a national park. No AC, no TV, no other annoying acronyms... you rock.

I hope to be seeing you soon, and hiking in that beautiful park of yours! I´ll be in touch! (thanks for the e'mail!)
