Well, here goes...

Well, here goes... I was forced to create this blogger account in order to post a comment about Chacos, so I thought I might as well roll with it! So basically, you have a pair of sandals to thank for this (only the greatest footwear created since man strapped a piece of leather to his foot). I can't promise that this will be interesting, but I have enjoyed staying connected by reading other's blogs, so this is my chance to 'give back'.

In less than a month I will be moving to my new home in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia for my summer internship. Although my wonderful Andy will be staying at home, he is excited about my summer adventure (of course he is... lets hear a round of applause for Andy!) I'll work on all sorts of resource management projects but my main job will be monitoring the nesting peregrine falcons in the park- in other words, sitting on a cliff outside watching the birds-I can't think of a better way to spend the summer!

A few nerdy bird facts...
peregrines (along w/ others at the top of the food chain) became endangered, mostly due to DDT and other pesticides
peregrines are commonly nesting in urban areas in man-made bird boxes but recovery is slow in the wild
in Virginia, only two known nesting pairs have reproduced in the wild since the peregrine's comeback, both of which on Stony Mountain in SNP

Good stuff! First, I have to get through the end of the semester but somehow writing papers inside on a sunny day doesn't seem so bad when I know I will be playing outdoors all summer!

I guess I should post something here since I am your husband. Thanks for the round of applause, but really it's you that needs to be applauded. How anyone can watch birds all summer is beyond me, but I know you will have fun and I am proud of you. On a different note, I will be interviewing for position of house cleaner, cook and foot massager for the summer. Please e-mail me if you are interested.
